CALIFORNIA MISSION PROJECT
WHAT: Make a model of a California Mission and write a report on your assigned mission.
WHEN: The brochure OR powerpoint will be due on Monday, April 23, 2012.
The model will be due on Monday, May 21, 2012.
WHERE: The model and report must be done at home, however students will have opportunities to do research at school.
WHO: The project must be done by the STUDENTS. Parents are welcome to help but the majority of the work must be done by the students!
DETAILS: The model must be made with clay, Styrofoam, cardboard, paper mache, wood, or other materials. I would prefer it if the students do their own creative work rather than take the shortcut and use a pre-made kit. These may be painted and decorated with items to enhance the reality of the mission. Included in their model should be the main church building, as well as the entire quadrangle of the mission.
Try to be as creative as possible. I have books that the children may use in the classroom for reference, as well as computer programs and library books. You can also find information on the internet as well as your local library.
Extra credit will be given to students who are able to visit a mission and bring in photographs to share with the class. These may also be incorporated into the report part of your project!
You have a choice on how to complete the WRITTEN PORTION of the assignment.
